"Raw - Lifestyle, Living & Recipes" by Kayla Thompson - Book Review

Sometimes being based in South Australia has some very real benefits, like the fact that I recently was lucky enough to be introduced to fellow South Aussie Health Coach and Raw Food Recipe Creator Kayla Thompson from Natural Naughties!

Kayla has a long resume of experience in the healthy living arena and successfully helps people with a range of health and eating disorders and believes that 'By eating raw we are able to solve health problems such a stomach problems, hormone issues and stomach pains. Super-foods, spices, herbs and natural ingredients are great in helping us feel alive and building up our immune systems."

Her 'let food be your medicine' message is one that resonates with us here at Yummy Mummy Food as we see examples every day of how our lactation cookies and morning sickness cookies help mums regain their health for both themselves and their babies.

Kayla has kindly given us copies of her "Raw Lifestyle, Living & Recipes" book to review and also give away to 2 lucky readers and boy am I glad she has done this, because I've found her book particularly useful.

Because while I know eating raw food should be simple and easy, I have to admit I am sometimes overwhelmed by what I thought required a lot of fiddly preparation which I have sometimes seen on other raw food advocate's recipe sites and pages. But Kayla's book really breaks it down simply and is more than just another recipe book.

It not only explains the benefits of a raw food diet and some of the popular super foods this can include, but also has a section explaining everything you'll need to prepare this way of eating quickly and easily.

The book then contains a comprehensive recipe section covering everything from breakfasts, salads, snacks, wraps, green smoothies, shakes, dinners and delicious desserts and sweets!

As a person who needs to avoid gluten and wheat as much as I can (thanks to a painful autoimmune condition), I find healthy and easy breakfast options in particular to be difficult, in a world where we are so ingrained to reach for toast and cereal, so I have REALLY benefited from Kayla's wholesome yet simple breakfast ideas like this YUM Oat & Apple Cobbler.

If you can't eat oats, they can be (and I have!) easily replaced these with nuts like almonds and cashews instead.
The real benefit to this recipe too is how much both my cereal addicted son and husband also have loved this one - so much so they even ask for it as a dessert, so it's a double win!

I've also found myself making Kayla's Flax Crackers over and over again too - these are so handy to have on hand as a healthy, convenient snack and go well with dips, hummus or even cheese. Again our whole family have been enjoy these and the benefits that flaxseed provides to our health.
